Employers That Hire Holiday Help: Understand the ACA Rules Around Seasonal Workers
"If you have at least 50 full-time employees, including full-time equivalent employees, on average during the prior year, your organization is an ALE.... If your workforce exceeds 50 full-time employees for 120 days or fewer during a calendar year, and the employees in excess of 50 during that period were seasonal workers, your organization is not considered an ALE. For this purpose, a seasonal worker is an employee who performs labor or services on a seasonal basis."

IRS Delays 2016 Deadline for Furnishing ACA Forms to Employees (PDF)
"Filers are not required to submit any request or other documentation to the IRS to take advantage of the extended furnishing due date provided by Notice 2016-70 . Because this extended furnishing deadline applies automatically to all reporting entities, the IRS will not grant additional extensions of time of up to 30 days to furnish Forms 1095-B and 1095-C. As a result, the IRS will not formally respond to any requests that have already been submitted for 30-day extensions of time to furnish statements for 2016."

Call-In Procedures Enforceable for Workers on FMLA Leave
"Give employees something in writing about the call-in procedures ... and require them to talk live to someone. Some employees want to text that they will be out and not speak with anyone. If they have to talk to someone, they're less likely to abuse intermittent leave[.]"

House Republicans Ask Court for Delay in ACA Challenge
"Attorneys for the U.S. House of Representatives asked a federal court to delay a lawsuit over President Barack Obama's signature health-care law, citing negotiations with President-elect Donald Trump over the future of the [ACA]. If granted, the reprieve would put on hold court proceedings while the incoming Trump administration and House Republicans decide how to address the president-elect's promise to unwind or repeal the health law."

#WeAreNotWaiting: Diabetics Are Hacking Their Health Because Traditional Systems Have Failed Them
"Diabetics have been waiting for years for better technology to manage their condition. Some got tired of waiting and hacked together an open source hardware and software solution.... The movement was born from frustration, particularly among the parents of young children with type 1 diabetes, at the pace at which technology that could potentially revolutionise their lives was being developed. Diabetes may be a relatively common and well-known condition, but managing it on a day-to-day basis is anything but easy."

Wells Fargo Must Now Get Permission Before Handing Executives 'Golden Parachutes'
"Federal regulators are moving to make it more difficult for Wells Fargo to make executive changes or give departing executives departure packages ... Wells Fargo will be required to get agency approval for changes in directors and senior executive officers, and for any golden parachute payments, the [Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC)] said. An OCC spokesman declined to comment on why the agency decided to rescind its decision to waive the restrictions."
