Loire Valley Cities Towns and Villages

A visit to the cities, towns and villages of the Loire Valley is a journey back in time as they retain much of the charm, character and authenticity that has attracted royal patronage over the centuries. Although probably best known for the architectural heritage of its famous chateaux such as Chenonceau and Chambord, it is also blessed with other fine examples in its historic towns such as Tours, Blois, Amboise, Chinon, Loches and Saumur.  In Chartres,Orleans and Bourges it has some of France's best cathedrals.
The villages and towns of the region, Centre-Val de Loire, are as diverse as its landscape with pretty villages and historic towns, many with their own chateau and almost all built around beautiful churches.
The villages of the Loire Valley region include eight of the 'Les-plus-beaux-villages-de-France' including the beautiful Montresor, nine if you include the beautiful village of Angle-sur-l'Anglin which has been 'adopted' by the local tourist board due to its location on the border of Southern Touraine.

Some visitors to France want a village experience where they can walk to a boulangerie and local restaurant and we can provide this at our village houses/vacation rentals .
"The small village experience was great and made us feel part of the landscape rather than just passing tourists."( Comment from guests who stayed in 'Le Bourg' vacation rental in Barrou)
The region gives such a diverse choice for places to visit -  you can seek out the great wines of the area in the hilltop village of Sancerre, step back in time to the 10th century at St-Benoit-Du-Sault or treat someone to a special St Valentine'day out in the village of the same name...we did it back way back in 2010 - you can also visit Richelieu built for the cardinal himself or walk the same streets as Descartes ("I think therefore I am") in the town that now bears his name.

Whether you choose to stay in one of the Val de Loire's major cities, medieval towns or charming villages you will find something to delight you.

Why not choose a village house or cottage for your vocation

Jim & Pauline, we have enjoyed our stay at the 'Old Walnut Mill' in Barrou so much. We feel relaxed and refreshed after spending a week here. Your cottage is beautifully fitted out and you have thought of everything we could need. The beds were very comfortable and we enjoyed cooking in your well equipped kitchen. We have enjoyed catching up with locals at nearby villages and trying out some very basic French!
The recommendations you gave us proved to be excellent. We loved the restaurant in Le Grand Pressigny, 'Grand Ma's' - wonderful owners.
All in all it has been an experience to remember and we appreciate how easy you have both made it for us from the initial enquiry, to the last day...thank you.
