Andrew Petter has served as President and Vice-Chancellor of Simon Fraser University since September 2010. The former dean of the University of Victoria’s highly regarded Faculty of Law (2002-2008), he earlier spent a decade (from 1991) in government as an MLA and held a variety of key cabinet positions, including posts as Attorney General and Minister of Advanced Education. He played an instrumental role in the Nisga'a treaty negotiations and the creation of the B.C. Treaty Commission. He also oversaw the establishment of B.C.’s Forest Practices Code and the creation of the B.C. Knowledge Development Fund to support investments in research infrastructure. As minister responsible for the Provincial Capital Commission, Andrew brought about the restoration of St. Ann’s Academy and spearheaded the development of the Galloping Goose and Lochside trail systems, for which he earned the tag of “Minister of Rails and Trails.”

Joanna Ochocka, Executive Director, has led community-based research (CBR) and knowledge mobilization activities for almost 20 years. She has been a principle investigator in more than 60 research studies involving multiple partnerships. She sees research as a catalyst for social innovation, public policy improvements, and promoting knowledge democracy, in which local knowledge is valued in building local solutions. Internationally, Joanna is an active member of the Global Alliance on Community Based Research (GACER). She gave a plenary workshop at the 6th Global University Network for Innovation (GUNi) Conference in Barcelona, Spain 2013 and presented at the Living Knowledge Conferences in Germany, UK and Northern Ireland. She led an evaluation of the Canadian Immigration Integration Project in China, India and the Philippines. Recently Joanna has provided CBR training and engagement to academics, government, public sector workers and community members in Ontario, Newfoundland and in Indonesia.
