Alprazolam History and Info
Alprazolam was first released by Upjohn Pharmaceutical (now Pfizer), in October of 1976 and became a blockbuster drug in the United States. The patent expired in September 1993 and Alprazolam was released in generic form in 1981. Currently Alprazolam is the most prescribed and most misused benzodiazepine on the U.S. market. The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration has classified Alprazolam as a schedule IV controlled substance, meaning it has dependence and addiction potential. All benzodiazepines are schedule IV drugs. The pharmacological properties of Alprazolam that include high affinity binding to the GABA receptor; high potency, short half-life and rapid onset of action all contribute to the misuse or addiction potential.

A study conducted by SAMHSA (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Association) found that 35% of drug-related visits to the emergency room were due to benzodiazepines, including Alprazolam.

Alprazolam has a fast onset of action with 90% of the peak effect achieved within the first hour. The time-released formation reaches full peak effect in approximately 1-1/2 hours. This short action also contributes to issues of tolerance, where the calming effect diminishes within shorter periods of time. For some, tolerance can occur within a couple of days, necessitating a dosage increase.

Alprazolam binds to GABA (gamma-amino-butyric acid), the most calming neurotransmitter of the human body. As the GABA receptors are modified and down-regulated, breakthrough anxiety, fear, pain and insomnia increase and a higher dose of Alprazolam is required to control the symptoms. Unfortunately this pattern will continue with each dosage increase, further deepening the addiction. Alprazolam is recommended for short-term or intermittent use but too many use it on a daily basis for months or years.

Rapid withdrawal of Alprazolam can lead to the under activity of GABA which in turn causes the nervous system to become hyper-excited. Insomnia and extreme anxiety are common during a rapid Alprazolam Withdrawal. Dreams may become more intense or strange nightmares can occur. Some may experience sudden, vivid memories combined with short-term memory or cognitive issues.

Benzodiazepines are arguably the most challenging pharmaceutical to stop. An abrupt or rapid withdrawal can be life-threatening due to the seizure and high blood pressure risk. Alprazolam must be tapered slowly to minimize withdrawal symptoms, yet many find a slow taper too challenging and need relief from the symptoms.

This is why our program uses calming all-natural nutraceuticals to ease the Alprazolam withdrawal. If you or a loved one is struggling with Alprazolam addiction, our nonprofit can help. Recovering from Alprazolam dependence is possible, as is restoring natural GABA levels to the nervous system.

Our team of experts utilizes slow titration schedules combined with calming Nutraceuticals to ease Alprazolam withdrawal symptoms. We have helped people in 73 countries over the last 11 years and we can also help you.
